Sweet Comb Chicago Cool Beans

Cool Beans Shave Soap

A while ago I reviewed some shaving products from Sweet Comb Chicago that consisted of head polish and pre shave oil. If you have not gotten a chance to read my past review and chose to do so before reading this one just follow the link to the review. I was and still am impressed with how the products performed and how my skin felt during and after each shave. I recently had a chance to review the Cool Beans shave soap from Sweet Comb Chicago and it took me all of five seconds to say yes! I knew I was going to like their new shave soap since I really enjoy using their other products. This also gave me the chance to revisit the head polish and pre shave oil using it with the Cool Beans shave soap and reviewing all the products as an entire shaving routine. Sweet Comb Chicago resides in, yep you guessed it right, the beautiful Chicago area. They raise and keep their Bees on their rooftop and harvest all the honey in the late summer to ensure the honeys pale yellow color and excellent flavor.

They also use the Bees wax from the hives as one of their key ingredients in their Bee Bald Head Polish. Bees wax has so many good skin care benefits and we all know that healthy and happy skin also means better shaving experiences with less irritation. If you have not gotten a chance to try any of Sweet Comb Chicago’s shaving products or taste their honey I suggest you do so soon and find out just how important bees wax can be to your skin care regiment and shaving ritual. If you have any questions about bees or honey the fine folks at Sweet Comb Chicago will be more than happy to answer them for you, their customer service is exceptional and their expertise on honey and bees wax is very informative. I was very excited about getting started with the Cool Beans shave soap, I just knew it was going to be a great shave.

I received in the mail an aluminum tin of Sweet Comb Chicago’s Cool Beans Shave Soap. The soap has a robust scent of Coffee and Mint . If you like both mint and coffee you are going to love the aroma this soap produces. The aroma is strong but not overwhelming to the people around you. In fact as soon as your done shaving the strength of the aroma tones down to light and pleasant. After taking the lid off of the tin you will notice the soap has a honeycomb imprinted into the top of it. I knew this would be very useful especially since the soap itself has a hardened consistency. I soaked my hard bristled shave brush for fifteen minutes before shaving while I took my shower. I like to shave at night. It’s very relaxing to me especially after a hard day. I try to make enough time in the evening so I can take my time shaving. when I wake up in the morning my head and face are still pretty smooth but by the end of the day it’s time to shave again.

After I was through with my shower and before my brush was done soaking I started my nightly shave off with the Essential Beard Oil used as a pre shave oil. I reviewed the Essential Beard Oil once before but decided to add it to the review since it’s made by the same brand. The Essential Beard Oil performed in the same way as it did before. The consistency of the oil is on the thinner side but adds a nice slickness underneath the shave soap. The Essential Beard Oil also will not clog the pores of your skin or your razor during shaving. I’m a big fan of the Essential Beard Oil as a pre shave oil and value the qualities it brings to my nightly shave and skin care.

After fifteen minutes my brush was ready to go so I squeezed some of the water from the bristles but not all the water. You want your brush to be saturated so you can build lather but not to saturated as to water your lather down to much past the point of no return. I always start with a little bit of water and add more until my lather is how I want it to be. I started to rotate my shave brush across the surface of the honey comb imprinted soap increasing friction producing a lather almost right away. I transferred it from the tin into my shave bowl and continued to work it into a shave ready lather in a matter of minutes. The lather was a little thin but made up for it in slickness. If I have to choose between lather and slickness I will always choose slickness. More slickness means less chances of irritation, nicks and cuts.

The Sweet Comb Chicago shave soap produced a lather with a lot of cushion and slickness that felt luxurious and turned each stroke of my safety razor into a fluid glide across the surface of my skin. My head and face shave was very smooth and comforting making the whole shaving experience with the cool beans shave soap pleasurable. I finished my nightly shave off with Bee Bald Head Polish. This is another product I have already reviewed but though it would be very effective when paired with the Essential Beard Oil and Cool Beans shave soap. The Bee Bald Head Polish is a hard consistency balm. I swiped my finger across the top of it with a little bit of pressure and transferred it to the palm of my hand to soften it up. After the balm was softened I massaged it into the skin on my dome and face. A few minutes later I added a couple drops of water remoistening the same area and buffing the skin with a small hand towel to increase the smoothness creating a vibrant glow.

The Cool Beans shave soap from Sweet Comb Chicago also contains some natural ingredients that add a lot of quality attributes to your skin care regimen and shaving routine. Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Safflower Oil, Glycerin, Shea Butter, Sunflower Seed Oil, Beeswax, Avocado Oil, Jojoba Oil, Cocoa Butter, Aloe Leaf Juice, Essential Oil, Fragrance, Menthol and Coffee are some ingredients that help keep your skin feeling soft, supple and smooth. These ingredients help to increase collagen in your skin filling in fine lines and wrinkles fighting the signs of aging. They also have antioxidant properties and vitamins A, D and E. Last but not least the natural ingredients help decrease inflammation of the skin and help decrease irritation caused from razor burn, cuts and nicks. The Essential Beard Oil and Bee Bald Head Polish contain some of the same natural ingredients that hold a lot of the same qualities as the natural ingredients found in the soap. Some other ingredients found in the beard oil and head polish are Coconut Oil, GoldenJojoba Oil, Hemp Seed Oil, Tea Tree Essential Oil, Orange Bitter Essential Oil, Peppermint Supreme Essential Oil, Fragrance Oil, Sunflower Oil, Hemp Oil, Avocado Oil, Cocoa Butter, Vitamin E and Aloe Vera. These natural ingredients also act as a natural bug repellent, naturally exfoliate and tone the skin and act as a natural astringent. These natural ingredients also help keep your skin feeling soft and smooth. The Bee Bald Head Polish contains a good portion of beeswax giving your Dome a great shine while providing a protective barrier from the outside elements locking in moisture and soothing your skin. All three products use different ingredients but also share a lot of the same ingredients that provide quality skin care attributes. I feel very fortunate to have been able to try the Cool Beans shave soap from Sweet Comb Chicago and I know you would feel the same if you were to try this soap for yourself.

What are my final thoughts on the Cool Beans shave soap from SweetCombChicago.com? Smooth with a lot of slickness and cushion for a comfortable shave. The Cool Beans shave soap is hard in consistency with a honey comb imprint on the top of the soap to help build lather faster through increased friction while rotating your brush over the top of the soap. The lather from the Cool Beans shave soap is a little on the thin side but makes up for the thin lather with an overabundance of slickness and cushion. Each shave with the Cool Beans shave soap was comfortable and left my skin feeling supple and smooth. The coffee and mint aroma of the Cool Beans soap was strong but pleasant and died down in strength by the end of my shave.

The Essential Beard Oil and Bee Bald Head Polish still performed in the same manner as it did when I first reviewed these products. The Essential Beard Oil was thin but added extra slickness to my nightly shave without clogging up the pores of my skin or my razor. The head polish helps keep your skin soft and supple with a radiant glow. All three products contain some natural ingredients that offer a lot of benefits to your skin care regimen and shaving routine. Using all three products together as a full time shaving routine would make a fantastic shave every time.
